Message : Somebody had asked for videos of the Racelogic system in action. I'm going to repost the part of the FAQ that has the videos below...

: Big thanks go out to John Y (Houston) for hosting the videos, and KiwiZ for providing the video of his Z launching!

: This is part of the multi-installment FAQ on the Racelogic system. If you missed the other sections, click on the links below...

: Part 1. Benefits of the Racelogic system

: Part 2. Datalogging Capabilities

: Part 3. Full Throttle Shift Option

: Q: What is launch control?

: The launch control option spools the turbos up BEFORE you even take off to totally eliminate turbo lag when starting from a stop. It's possible to get the turbos up to 5psi while sitting still!

: Q: How does launch control work?

: A low rpm two step rev limiter is temporarily imposed on the engine (typically 3000-5000rpm). As the engine bounces off the rev limiter, it spins the turbo up. The rev limiter is user adjustable. Once you shoot out of the hole, the traction control then takes over to ensure a smooth launch (and the temporary rev limiter is removed to allow the engine to rev to redline).

: Q: If I hold my revs anywhere between 3000 and 6000rpm I don't get any boost. In fact, I get vacuum (negative boost)! How is it that by simply holding the revs, the launch control is able to provide boost?

: Simply holding the revs will not produce any boost because there is almost no load on the engine. Thus, there is very little exhaust gas energy available to spin the turbos up. However, in the case of the launch control, it is bouncing off a rev limiter which does put a load on the engine. The load produces enough exhaust gas energy to spin the turbos up to make positive boost.

: Q: Is it hard to use?

: It's very simple... you set the rpms for the rev limiter (either by laptop or by using the launch control button), push in your clutch, put your car in gear, press the launch control button, floor the gas and watch the boost build up! It will automatically turn off once you start moving.

: Q: Every car is different in terms of setup, power, etc. Is the launch control adjustable and tunable?

: YES! Not only can you adjust the rpms for the launch control rev limiter, but you can adjust a wide variety of things such as the point at which traction control takes over, wet vs. dry launch conditions, etc. etc. This makes the launch control extremely versatile (unlike all the other launch control products out on the market which are usually preset from the manufacturer and NON-adjustable).

: Q: How much boost can I make before launching?

: This depends on which turbos you use and which rev limit you set. At 4000rpm, my GT2530 turbos make 3psi... at 5500rpm they make 5psi. (I personally find 5psi too much boost to launch my car, so I launch with 3psi). Stock turbos should make a little bit more than my GT2530 turbos because they're smaller and easier to spool up in the lower rpm ranges.

: Q: OK, OK, I've heard enough... show me the VIDEOS!!!!
: warning, these videos may take some time to load if you have a slow connection... please be patient.

: First video: (5mb) This is a video showing you what happens if you hold the rpms at 4000rpm with no launch control... NOTHING! All you get is vacuum.
: No launch control

: Second video: (5mb)This shows what happens when you hit the green launch control button when the rev limiter is set at 4000rpm... POSITIVE BOOST!
: With launch control

: Third video: (1mb) Here's a video of a turbo Z launching with the launch control (if you pay really close attention, after the tires chirp, you can faintly hear the traction control cutting back the engine power).
: Launching Z

: Fourth video: (1mb) Here's one of a BMW M Z3 launching.
